The Stakes Have Never Been Higher

On Sunday, January 17th, 2021, faith communities across the nation will join together to celebrate the Sanctity of Human Life. As we see life increasingly being devalued in Massachusetts and in many other states, it is now more important than ever that we come together in prayer for the lives of the unborn and their mothers. In fact, in the state of Massachusetts, the stakes have never been higher.
The Roe Act Passes in MA
Just this past Christmas Eve, Governor Baker vetoed the Roe Act, claiming, “I cannot support the sections of this proposal that expand the availability of later term abortions and permit minors age 16 and 17 to get an abortion without the consent of a parent or guardian” (npr). Just a few days later, Massachusetts Senate overrode Governor Baker’s veto, making this abortion bill state law.
What does this change?
The passing of the Roe Act:
- Allows individuals as young as 16 years old to request an abortion without their parents’ consent (lowering the age from 18 years old)
- Allows abortions after 24 weeks of pregnancy if a fatal fetal anomaly was diagnosed, in order “to preserve the life of the patient … [and/or] to preserve the patient’s physical or mental health” (mass.gov)
- Allows abortions to occur even on the due date of a baby’s birth, for reasons ranging from the patient’s or baby’s health, to being emotionally or mentally stressed.
What this means going forward
With young girls now able to make life-altering decisions without their parents’ consent, and with ultimately no limits on when a young girl or woman can seek an abortion, it is now more important than ever that we reach them first. Your Options Medical is the only medically-licensed pregnancy center in Eastern Massachusetts, which means we not only conduct life-saving ultrasounds with medically trained nurses on staff, but we also have access to a network of medical professionals to whom we can refer our patients. Our hope is that women and couples facing unexpected pregnancies will come to our centers, receive the medical services we provide and feel empowered to choose life for their babies.

Additionally, we are opening a brand new center in Brookline, MA! This center will expand our services to a whole new population of college students and other “at risk” populations in and around Greater Boston. It is also in close proximity to three abortion clinics, including Planned Parenthood.
