Pregnancy Centers Under Attack – Part 2
19 Jul, 2022
With Roe v. Wade being overturned after nearly fifty years since its passing in 1973, we rejoice in the fact that our Supreme Court has ruled that there is no Constitutional right to abortion. With this historical decision, the authority to regulate abortion has been returned back to the state and is now in the hands of the elected individuals the people voted for. As a nation, we are one step closer to the day when abortion becomes unthinkable for all.
However, with this outcome, comes heavy opposition and outrage from pro-abortion groups and organizations. In this second blog of our three-part series, we want to inform you about the backlash pregnancy centers are currently dealing with, so that you may be more equipped with the whole truth.
Facing Increased Opposition
Even before Roe v. Wade was overturned, pregnancy resource centers have been the target of slander for years. Last year, Planned Parenthood released a blog with specific intentions to spread false information about pregnancy centers. In this blog, they open with, “Crisis pregnancy centers (also called CPCs or fake clinics) are clinics or mobile vans that look like real health centers, but they have a shady, harmful agenda: to scare, shame, or pressure you out of getting an abortion, and to tell lies about abortion, birth control, and sexual health.”
However, as you read in the first blog of this three-part series, you can have confidence that pregnancy centers do not exist to fool or coerce women into keeping their babies. Pregnancy centers exist to provide no-cost services and support for women in need, so that they can make a fully informed decision regarding their pregnancy.
Even though abortion has not been banned entirely, this outcome has still left opposing groups and organizations outraged. As a result, pregnancy centers across the nation have been facing fierce opposition, backlash, harassment, and attacks. Pro-abortion groups, such as ‘Jane’s Revenge,’ have claimed responsibility for numerous attacks on pregnancy resource centers, vandalizing their property with spray paint, firebombing their centers, and sending violent threats. They even circulated flyers stating: “If abortions aren’t safe, you’re not either.”
Massachusetts Leadership Opposing CPCs
It is important to know that it is not just pro-abortion groups that are threatening pregnancy resource centers. Government officials and those in leadership positions are also spreading false information and threatening to shut down pregnancy centers entirely.
Massachusetts Attorney General issued a warning against pregnancy centers, stating: “CPCs do NOT provide comprehensive reproductive healthcare. CPCs are organizations that seek to prevent people from accessing abortion care.”
In addition, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren also recently released a statement:
“These are deceptive outfits that front for groups that are trying to harass or otherwise frighten people who are pregnant to keep them from seeking an abortion, and they do so under the cover of pretending to offer abortion services,” Warren said in a press conference Wednesday, June 29th. “So I’d like to see us talk about how we might move more aggressively to make sure that someone doesn’t face that bait and switch that could be traumatic at a time that that person is already under stress,” Warren added.
She has also been blatantly clear in her intentions to shut down pregnancy centers in Massachusetts, saying, “In Massachusetts, those crisis pregnancy centers that are there to fool people who are looking for pregnancy termination help outnumber true abortion clinics by three-to-one. We need to shut them down in Massachusetts and we need to shut them down all around the country. You should not be able to torture a pregnant person like that.”
Massachusetts Cities Violating Our Rights
The cities of Somerville and Cambridge released ordinances banning pregnancy centers from advertising or stepping foot into their communities, claiming that they only spread false and harmful information. Other cities are following suit.
According to the MA Attorney General, Warren, and those who align with their views, pregnancy centers exist to fool and torture women facing unexpected pregnancies. However, contrary to what their arguments propose, pregnancy centers simply intend to offer the whole truth to pregnant women regarding all of their options. Countless women in our communities end up choosing life, not because of coercion or deceptive practices, but because the ultrasound revealed the humanity of their child and through the support they received, they felt empowered to continue their pregnancy.
How Your Options Medical Has Been Affected
Unfortunately, Your Options Medical has not been unscathed in the recent increase in opposition toward pregnancy centers.
Shortly after the Roe Act was overturned, our Revere center was spray painted with the word “SCAM.” Our centers have received several harassing phone calls and there has been an increase in fake Google and Yelp reviews from those who oppose us. A Facebook page has also been set up with intentions to shut down our Brookline center.
As our supporters, we want you to feel confident that you too can defend the wonderful work we are doing together.
Your Options Medical operates two licensed clinics as well as two offices staffed by a team of medical professionals, including licensed nurses and doctors. Our organization is committed to 100 percent transparency in all our marketing practices and patient interactions.
We do not provide or refer for abortions and we are careful to disclose this fact on our website and on all of our advertising. In addition, every potential patient must first read and sign a Commitment of Care disclosure that clearly states that we do not provide or refer for abortions.
Our services are offered free of charge to anyone who voluntarily seeks our help and we treat every person with dignity, compassion and respect.
Our Work Continues
Abortion is not a woman’s only option, yet it seems that pro-abortionists want women to believe it is. Why are they so fixated on women choosing to take the life of their children? Why are they so adamant in their endeavors to prevent pregnancy centers from offering vital information and truth to women regarding their pregnancies? It is concerning, how much they want women to seek abortions, to the point where they have vowed to shut down pregnancy centers for simply sharing that there are other options available to them that do not require them to end their baby’s life.
Nevertheless, though fierce opposition is on the rise, we are fully confident that we can defend our work against every accusation. We are so thankful to all of our donors who continue to pray for us as we traverse these uncertain times.
Stay tuned for the third and final blog in this three-part series, coming next week!
