Parenting Class: Labor & Delivery
09 Sep, 2019
At Your Options Medical, we offer our pregnant patients ongoing education in order to equip them for their new journey of parenting. These classes cover a wide range of topics from what to eat and avoid during pregnancy, distinguishing and understanding your baby’s different cries, basic infant emergency response information, and so much more. We also offer life skills classes to train our patients on how to apply for a job, how to go about purchasing a car, how to budget for a home, etc. Today, we want to share with you a little bit about one of our most popular classes: labor and delivery.
Labor and Delivery
By far, labor and delivery appears to be the most feared time of pregnancy for many women. It is understandable as every woman, baby, and delivery is unique; it is a fear of the unknown. At Your Options, our patient advocates strive to relieve these fears and calm anxieties by educating patients on this stage of child bearing. In this class, patients watch a brief video explaining different methods of labor and techniques for pain relief/reduction. Patients can hear from other women and couples as they share their experiences in order to educate others on what may be expected.
After the video, advocates work through a worksheet with the patient and can help answer questions they may have. Finally, patients are given a short piece of homework that will help them plan and prepare (as much as possible) for their own labor and delivery experience.
Many of our patients who have taken this course have expressed immense gratitude and relief for having learned the information prior to actually going into labor. Some patients who have been diagnosed with severe anxiety expressed that this course brought them so much relief and calmed many nerves. With knowledge comes power and at Your Options, we are all about empowering our patients to be the best parents they can be.
